Generations of families have selected Fort Meigs Union Cemetery as their place of perpetual rest. Our mission is to provide the best possible service, to maintain the cemetery to the highest standards, and to provide other services deemed necessary to enhance the quality of burials for owners of lots in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. About 1822, eleven years before the Ohio General Assembly chartered Perrysburg, the Village of Perrysburg designated their first formal cemetery at the southwest corner of the Indiana Avenue and Cherry Street intersection. Several devastating epidemics prompted the Village to move the cemetery beyond the edge of the Village to its current location at the northwest corner of Indiana Avenue (River Road/SR 65) and West Boundary (SR 25). In 1847, the cemetery opened as the “New Village Cemetery”.

The Perrysburg Township trustees purchased the adjacent property to the north in 1869 and opened as a cemetery for Township residents. The Village blocks were designated by numbers and the Township blocks were designated by letters. Additional land was later purchased at the southwest corner of Indiana Avenue and West Boundary, thus expanding cemetery capacity well into the future.

The Village and Township joined their cemeteries as a jointly owned public cemetery on March 31, 1877 and Mayor J.J. Rheinfrank changed the name to Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
